Happy Holidays!

I just finished a very busy yet rewarding semester teaching at UM-Flint. One of the highlights was conducting the Chamber String Ensemble. The ensemble is growing in members and in musicianship. We tackled Barber's Adagio For Strings! (I can cross that off the bucket list) I am so proud of these students!

I was also glad to be able to compose something for the ensemble this semester. Below is a video of the Chamber Strings premiering my new composition, Five Vignettes For String Orchestra. This work is a collection of five short movements inspired by images of my hometown Detroit. Alisha Welliver, violin and Matt Hemric cello are soloists. A special thanks to Teresa Lindhurst for making the video avaible. Please check it out!

Next semester I plan on writing a new score for a classic silent film. At the spring concert we will perform the score live while the audience views the film. I am currently searching for the right film. Maybe a Charlie Chaplin movie?

UM-Flint music has been without a string program for a few years but with the interest the Chamber Strings have generated these past three semsters, the Department of Music has decided to offer a string major in fall 2013! Please spread the word!
